Kellogg’s Says Bye to Michael Phelps

Due to Michael Phelp’s recent bad boy behavior, ie getting caught toking on a bong, Kellogg’s will be releasing him at the end of this month. Apparently that contract between Kellogg’s (cover of the cereal) and Michael Phelps would come to an end in February if they didn’t renew it. I think this is the first time this has ever been done, course I don’t remember another time an olmypic gold medalist was caught smoking it up either.

“We originally built the relationship with Michael, as well as the other Olympic athletes to support our association with the US Olympic team, ” Kellogg spokeswoman tells Ad Age in a statement. “Michael’s most recent behavior is not consistent with the image of Kellogg. His contract expires at the end of February and we have made a decision not to extend his contract.”

Do you think they are being too harsh? Or do you think this will teach kids it isn’t alright to do drugs?

I think this is a bit too much for one or two pictures of him on the internet. There are worse things out there that athletes are doing to themselves… geez.

Kelloggs is doing what any business would do that has had a representative in the bad limelight. If his contract ends in February then they have every legal right to end the contract.

In short they’re just covering their legal behinds. That’s the thing about the Olympics. Though talent and effort are good, the money is where the sponsors are.

I just hope that he doesn’t have a tough time finding another sponsor for the next Olympics.
