It seems like only last year that America was searching for the beautiful 15 year old, Elizabeth Smart. Elizabeth had been abducted from her own bed, in the middle of the night by knife point. The only person that saw was her little sister, that no one believed at first, until much later. Elizabeth had been grabbed by some guy that had worked once for the family when their mom brought a bum home to work on their yard to give them some money, she thought she was doing good. He’d kidnap Elizabeth one night, camp out on the hill near their home for many weeks before making her marry him and travel by foot from one city to the next. One day, a driver would spot Elizabeth’s face, hidden behind rags and call for help.

Elizabeth is now 20-years-old and believe it or not she doesn’t dwell on the past, in fact she helped get the Adam Walsh bill established. Here are a few quotes she made to People Magazine, to read more you’ll have to buy the magazine.

“I feel so fortunate that I was able to come through this unscarred. I want to tell other people, ‘Don’t give up. Miracles do happen.”

“Certainly there were times when I tried to escape, but he kept telling me that if I did, he’d kill my entire family. I’m not sorry this happened to me anymore, because it made me grow up.”

“I feel so lucky to be here. From the day I came home, I haven’t wasted time looking back.”

Wow, I still remember hearing about this on the news and for a long time afterwards. Her family woud not give up believing that she was still alive, and they were right. Hope the future contiues to hold good stuff for her.

Ok, she could have easily walked away… Her home was 10 minutes away and the only reason why she was “found” was because she was rich and white…

What a wonderful young woman. Her parents must be so incredibly proud of her.

And “Teena” — what a horrible thing to say.
